Uma-Maheshvara Murti
Tantric Hindu votive sandstone stele of Uma-Maheshvara, showing Shiva
and Parvati as central figures with Ganesh and Karttikeya (Skanda) in the
bottom corners, Nandi in the middle supporting the deities, and two apsaras
in the upper corners. A series of lingams is seen above the goddess' head.
Fluidly carved in deep relief and pierced clear through behind the figures
adding to the sense of depth. Note the disposition of the couple's legs and
the overall highly-charged, yet delicately balanced, erotic dynamism.
Though there is loss to Shiva's face and overall wear commensurate with
age, the sculpture exudes a palpable and potent spiritual presence.
